Project Description:
To create a modernized networked system that can withstand and recover from unforeseen events by upgrading the capacity of three existing Pepco substations in the District and Maryland.  Constructing a new substation and 10 miles of underground transmission conduits and cable.  The additional upgrades will also allow Pepco’s grid to accommodate more customer generated power through rooftop solar.  The goal of the project is also to reduce the erosion and/or pollution in the affected tributaries. The recommended green infrastructure designs include planter, curb extension and open area bioretention; permeable pavement in parking lanes, sidewalks, and alleys; impervious surface removal; tree plantings, impervious surface removal and other volume reduction and water quality enhancements.
